Motorsport Tools Blog

  • at the Silverstone MotoGP 2013

As one of the UK's largest suppliers of Beta Tools to motorsport teams and professional mechanics. We were invited by Beta Utensili for a day out at the British MotoGP, as guests of one of the many MotoGP teams Beta Tools supply tools too.

As guests of NGM Forward Racing who's riders include 2 time World Champion Colin Edwards 'the Texas Tornado', we were lucky to have access to the paddock and garage.

After making our mark at the hospitality is was time to move down to the pit lane garages and have a look at the tools and bikes.

Beta Motorsport special tool cabinets as used by lots of MotoGP teams. Available from Motorsport tools in a variety of colours. Beta Tools Motorsport Pit Tool Roller Cab 9 Drawer C39MD and the Beta Utensili Motorsport Pit Tool Cabinet 7 Drawer with paper dispenser.

Beta Tools Utensili 600 series torque wrenches used heavily by the teams for setting the correct torque on critical components such as wheels, forks and other parts of the suspension. The Beta Tools 600 series torque wrenches start from as little as £100. This 1/2 drive one with a range of 40 - 200 Nm and 440mm seam about the best buy to us. Beta 1/2 Drive 606/20 Torque Wrench

We were told the carbon brake disc on the left hand side of the picture cost about £4500 and are only used for one weekend. If the rider has any sort of fall they replace them just encase there are any internal cracks which they cant see with the eye.

The Ohlins dampers have the names of the riders engraved on them to avoid mix ups between the bikes.

The custom made Beta Tools trolley is an evolution of the popular C41H and houses a generator to power the tyre warmers on the grind and some additional tools for the mechanics.

Aircraft spec wiring loom was a work of art, the amount of sensors on these bikes that feed data back to the pits is amazing.

The mechanics use lots of hand tools from the Beta range, Beta Sockets and we spotted one of our very popular Beta items the Beta Dzus fastener Screwdriver.

In the back of the garage they had a Beta 7 Drawer C39 roller cabinet which they used to hold tools for setting up the suspension. Beta Roller Cabinets.

Some spare engines and fuel tanks in the back of the garage.

Tyres at the back of the garage ready to go.

The mechanics tidy up all there Beta Tools once the Moto2 bikes had left the pits.

Beta Tools stickers on the Moto2 teams bikes.

The very popular Beta Tools C41H Tool Trolley which not only is it one of's best sellers but used so heavily by the MotoGP and Moto2 teams that we lost count of how many we saw over the weekend. We have had many special edition ones of the years and currently have one for the Beta supported British Superbike team Milwaukee Yamaha Beta Milwaukee Yamaha Tool Trolley

We so wanted to stick our stickers on a bike!

The bikes are stripped down before the rider have even finished telling there race engineer how the race went.

Another shot of Beta Motorsport special tool cabinets as used by lots of MotoGP teams. Available from Motorsport tools in a variety of colours. Beta Tools Motorsport Pit Tool Roller Cab 9 Drawer C39MD and the Beta Utensili Motorsport Pit Tool Cabinet 7 Drawer with paper dispenser.

The cabinets have been modified with an air compressor outlet and the digital gauges are the temps of the tyre warmers which plug in at the base of the cabinet. Some bit of kit!

  • A very special Ferrari 599 seen in London this week - Velvet Wrapped!

During our recent visit to London we spotted this very special Ferrari 599 GTB, wrapped in velvet!

This Ferrari 599 is covered in velvet and is believed to be owned by an exceptionally wealthy Middle Easterner. This Fur-rari is one of many supercars hitting London streets over the summer months, known as 'Ramadan Rush.'

The 'Ramadan Rush' is a tradishon where the super ritch from the oil-rich Gulf states come to London to escape the blistering heat of the middle east. They charter entire cargo jets to fly over their collection of customised supercars, including Ferrari's, Bugatti Veyron's, McLaren, MP4-12C, Rolls-Royce Phantom.

RT Quaife Engineering Ltd based in Sevenoaks, Kent is one of the UK
leaders in design and manufacture of motorsport transmissions. The range
includes gearboxes, gear kits, ATB differentials, rear axle and steering components.

RT Quaife Engineering Ltd was established in 1965 by Rodney Quaife, when
he produced a five-speed transmission for the Triumph and Norton / AMC
motorcycle replacing the original four-speed. The kit proved to be a
success. Quaife went on to develop gear kits and the ATB / LSD differential and even developed their own GT racing car, the Qaife R4GTS 4x4 for the British GT race series. Today Quaife operates a 2.5 acre headquarters site at Otford, manufacturing components and complete gearboxes for motorsport, commercial and OEM.

The Quaife R4 GTS racing car which competed in the British GT Championship. Powered by a 600bhp plus Ford V8 engine, 4 x 4 power train and sequential gearbox, produced by Quaife

Quaife operate state of the art equipment: Robotic CNC machining, CNC gear cutting machines,
tri-coordinate measuring machines and transmission testing facilities

The Quaife Axiline 97000EC transient transmission dynamometer allows its R&D team develop and test gearboxes in house.

One of Quaife's first gear kits was for the Ford Rocket gearbox and later the type-9 5 speed gearbox, developed as a cost efective alternative to the ZF 5 speed gearbox used by the works rally teams in Escort Mk1 and Mk2. Both these gear boxes are as popular today as they were in the 70's and used through out the wotrld in Escorts mk1 mk2 rally, race cars and kit cars. More information on the Quaife gear kits and complete gearboxes can be found here: Escort Gearboxes

In 2008 Quaife launched the new 60G six speed sequential gearbox. A
direct replacement to the Type 9 unit and replacement for the Escort Mk1
& Mk2, as well as kit cars, with Caterham Motorsport and Ginetta
Cars using the 60G for their one make circuit racing series.

In 1986 Quaife’s designed, patented and manufactured the first Quaife helical gear Automatic Torque Biasing (LSD) differential.
The Quaife ATB differential was used be Gehard Berger to win the 1986 Mexico Grand Prix in a 1500bhp Benetton F1 car.
Quaife won its first OEM contract in 2002 to supply the Ford with 5000
ATB diff units for the Mk1 Ford Focus RS and later for the 300bhp Mk2
    Focus RS in 2008.
Quaife also supplied Daimler-Chrysler in 2003 with an order for 18,000
